Rudy’s Bar-B-Q is Smokin’ with Velocity Retail’s Restaurant Group

Barbeque, Barbecue, Barbie, BBQ……Bar-B-Q.  When you ask people about Bar-B-Q, they ALWAYS have a favorite.  When you ask people about TEXAS Bar-B-Q, they will tell you there’s Barbeque, and then there’s RUDY’S Bar-B-Q…!!!  RUDY’S is based near San Antonio and has grown into a four-state powerhouse chain with over 30 locations and tens of thousands of followers.

Chip Thor, Vice President at Velocity Retail, has been hired to lead the expansion of Rudy’s in Arizona.  The first location is under construction in Chandler, just east of the northeast corner of Chandler Boulevard and Interstate 10.  The store is expected to open in April.   “Rudy’s is a great concept that should do very well in the Arizona market.  We’re excited about the opportunity to bring great barbeque to the Valley,” said Thor.

From architecture to service style to interior layout, décor, and signage, their restaurants have maintained a “country store” feel, similar to their humble beginnings.  When it comes to the food they serve, they have nothing to be humble about.  Whether you like your barbeque dry or juicy, it’s the customer’s choice.  Rudy was once quoted as saying, “Our pits are 100 percent wood fired with oak, a slower burning wood than the mesquite used by others. Along with time and oak, 12-14 hours, we cook with a dry spice that ensures each plate of Rudy´s Bar-B-Q is perfectly ready for you. Apply some of our famous ‘Sause’ and dinner is served.”  So, whether your palate likes “Hot” or “Sissy” sauce, it’s all good.

Rudy’s prefers to buy 75,000 square foot finished pads with visibility to major freeways and high daytime populations.  Though not required, their locations typically include gasoline sales for consistency with their “country store” concept.
