The discount designer-apparel shop Stein Mart, at Ray Road and 48th Street, is in the middle of a going-out-of-business sale. Company officials say a store at Tempe Marketplace will replace the Ahwatukee store when it closes in March.
Judi Butterworth, senior vice president of Velocity Retail Group in Phoenix, pointed out that Ahwatukee Foothills Towne Center, the current home of Stein Mart, takes up three corners of the intersection of Ray and 48th. It includes Target, Barnes and Noble, AMC movie theater, Hobby Lobby and a number of other profitable, high-traffic tenants.
